Hi, my name is Mikołaj Kiereś and I am a .NET Web Developer… My professional career started just after I graduated from Wrocław University of Technology in 2011. Okey, to be perfectly honest it started on the last, 10th semester, of my studies, but back then I was not aware of that. It was another day writing my thesis when a friend called me and asked if I would like to work for his friend on some golf related project. I wanted to have some experience, after my graduation, to put in my resume before applying for some real jobs, so I took his offer. At that time I could not predict that after about ~6 months of working on this project I will receive a call from an owner of G24 Group company telling me that I was de facto working for them all the time and they would like to hire me. That was the ‘real’ beginning. So..
I have worked 1,5 year within a ‘start-up’ team of three people on a golf booking platform project. It was a team of project manager, graphic designer and me as a web developer. I really enjoyed working with those two guys, we were a good team, in fact we are still in touch. As I can recall we had a lot of brainstorming back then about how things should work, how should they look like, what are the clients needs and what can we ‘give’ them. Although we had our differences and there were some arguments on some matters in the end we were really well oiled machine that was pushing this project further and further. Unfortunetly we have not finished everything that we have planed to do but we have delivered some parts of it. From my information those ‘parts’ are doing well, they are still developed and are spreading all over polish golf courses.
§ At the same time while working for the Golfers I accepted an offer of creating a law case manager for one of the law companies in Wrocław. I have created it from scratch and I have delivered it by myslef. Of course I was working on it only in my spare time. Because I had absolutely no knowledge at all how the law company is functioning and what the final product should look like. That is why I was a regular guest in this firm. Asking, learning and getting a lot of information about what, where and why. Of course meetings were not enough. So we spoke on the phone even more often than I was speaking with my family. How many emails I have sent and received ? Plentyzylion, that many. After months of not slept nights, tons of sweat and hundreds of hours of hard work I delivered the product and it is proudly working since 2012. §
In april of 2013 I have started working in Utilities Department of Sygnity S.A. company in Wrocław. Totally different work environment than in my previous job. Sygnity is a corporation with over ~1000 employees, so it was a little shock for a guy who was working in a team of 3 and only with several other co-workers around him. At the beginning I could not imagine that I have to call, email or go to plenty different people to get my key card, cell phone or IT hardware. Back then, whatever problem or need I had, I had to go downstairs, speak to Eve, and it was done. Here I needed to ask someone from our office who is responsible for this and that, find or call this someone and than just wait..for a at least a week for the results. Corporation. Nevertheless I have blended in quickly. People around there are like family, some of them work there for more then 10 years, so after few weeks I could consider myslef as one of them, a new brother. ‘My family’ that I have been working with consisted of around ~20 people, including project managers, analytics, testers and developers. We were working on a smart metering electro – energetic system for energy providers companies. It was really chalennging. I have learned a lot and I have learned from the best. I am not talking only about programming skills but in general. How real project development process should look like, how to evaluate and manage time, how to be a part of a bigger thing and how to cooperate and interact with eachother. But I think that the most important thing that I have learned is that, it is good to be in a team but being a team is everything that really counts. People are the value. So why did I quit you ask ? Opportunity ? Possibility ? Carrer turn ? Dreams coming true ? A journey ? Australia ? New places ? New people ? New culture ? Sightseeing ? Scuba diving ? Surfing ? Adventure ? Yeah! That is right…
